Interesting viewpoint. It does strike me as a dangerous precedent, disenfranchising people because you tell them they're not competent to vote. There's some idea that this was what the electoral college is for, I guess.

Also, it just seems like people who aren't good at picking presidents will necessarily also be bad at self-assessing that skill (the whosicallit effect), and so telling folks to stay home because of it is (if it has an effect at all) not going to get the right people.

Ironically the Daily Show today was about the "Stupid" vote (relevant section quoted by *andrea)...
