Either there is an elaborate, highly distributed hoax... or l'Ill du Levant, the French island that features significantly in the opening of Heinlein's _Glory Road_, is both real and largely as described in that book.

given that there are 175,000 general Google hits for the first nude beach in France (well, the place where nudism was practiced on a largish scale), i think you're safe in calling it real :)

That was the first thing I ascertained when I was reading the book many years ago, as (being a sheltered American kid) I wanted to know when RAH was making things up. Instead of Wikipedia, I had my father, who knew almost as much and had better fact-checking in his head (and no one outside editing him).
