Finished: _Godplayers_, Damien Broderick. It starts off good. The middle is great. And I have no clue what happened in the last third of this book. The back cover contains spoilers, but not useful ones. There's a sequel, _K-Machines_, which I have on order. We'll see.

I've read about 2/3 of Tipler -- at the point where I realized that his arguments were basically circular (when they didn't violate the Pigeonhole Principle), I put it down. It wasn't the philosophy or the cosmology that lost me.
No, somewhere in the last third of _Godplayers_, the plot appears to fragment and lose coherency. I can't find motivations for most of the characters, I know zilch about K-machines except that they may despise organic life for being coldly rational, and I'm not sure if anything actually happened after the metaphorical brain transplant surgery...
