Meme: On Books.
Feb. 26th, 2005 07:44 pm1) Total number of books in your house:
Roughest good estimate: 2500+.
2) The last book you bought was:
Books 1-5 of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series. Already had book 6.
3) What was the last book you read before reading this message?
I just finished _Galactic Patrol_, E.E. Smith (Ph.D), for the Nth time. Going through the series.
4) Write down 5 books you often read or that mean a lot to you.
Hah. Only five? When I'm looking for comfort reading, I often turn to Niven, Herbert, Walter Jon Williams, Bujold, and Heinlein. All of them have done enough in the field that they ought to be obvious on a last-name-only basis, but there are several good Williamses. Tough noogies. For meaning? I'm generally willing to suspend my disbelief for just about any competent author, right down to "going along" with whatever philosophy they seem to be espousing. This lasts just a few minutes after I put down the book. You could say that I am a Discordian in that I am prohibited from believing in what I read... except during the reading process, when I am a Sufi because I become (more or less) what I am reading.
There's a 5) to this meme, but it's solely concerned with propagation. Instead, let me substitute a question for the readers: what books written in the last 3 years or so have made a positive impact on you?
