Finished: _Behemoth: B-Max_ and _Behemoth: Seppuku_, by Peter Watts. The final Rifters book, in two volumes. There may be hope for humanity, but not much of it in this bookworld. In the end, there's not one really admirable character, and the sadist turns out to be the Big Villain. At least there's a good rationale for it this time, as opposed to the generic author trick of "how can I show everyone that my Villain is Evil? Ah, I know: he'll be a sexual deviant!".
I can't say I'm likely to reread these, though I am likely to pick up anything that Watts writes. Allow me to point out that he actually has a complete story in each of these books (counting the two volumes of Behemoth as one), which is a rara avis in these days of trilogy-by-default.
