Good news, bad news. The good news is that this SF thriller attempts to teach probability the way that so many SF stories try to teach physics. The bad news is that late in the book, at a critical juncture which establishes "the way things are in this universe", the author mistakes independent events for dependent events.
Oh, and he's read _Dune_ and has a counterargument for insanity due to oracular prescience. Muad'Dib should have adjusted his meds...
