Books. (Wrapping up one year)
Jan. 2nd, 2007 03:20 pmBleh. I hate being sick.
_Infoquake_, David Louis Edelman. Libertopian cyberspace nanotech, with a haptic programming language that doesn't seem to have been thought through very well and no significant plot resolution. Presumably book one of N, but I'm sure I wouldn't buy a first novel as an open-ended series unless it were much better than this. May be interesting to human-interface people, or they might want to throw it against the wall.
_Beguilement_, Lois McMaster Bujold. Start of a new series in a fantasy romance vein. It spends a lot of time playing with "is this SF or fantasy" a la _Steerswoman_, but eventually decides that it's fantasy a la Pern.
_Lost Girls_, Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie. Pornography, which is to say, writing (and illustration, this is a graphic novel) about sex. Taste is an individual matter; I wasn't thrilled, but perhaps you will be. As literature, it's a second-tier Moore, which is still pretty good.
Most of the things John Ringo wrote in 2006: if he could get over the poke-at-the-liberals bit*, he would be more readable. As it is, I need to skip over some portions the same way I do in a recent Tom Clancy or David Weber. *: All liberals are wussy traitors. Women are hos, mothers or crones. America RoxxorZ! Fox News is the only true source of unbiased information...
