_The Clones of Mawcett_, Thomas DePrima
The first book I read this year is MilSF bordering on space opera. It's the third book in the increasingly unlikely adventures of Jenetta Carver, who has no negative traits whatsoever. Previously, she has been the galactic-record-holder for survival in stasis, demonstrated superb command ability, amazing tactical and strategic skills, and was kidnapped by slave traders who tried an experimental genetic procedure that made her taller, more beautiful, a faster healer, and immortal, or nearly so. As payback, she single-handedly escaped, destroyed their asteroid base and all records of the procedure, and was repeatedly promoted.
As she is not sufficiently wonderful, this book sees her cloned, twice, via a biological duplication process that also copies memories and personality. She receives dual-citizenship, military rank and high near-Royal status with a friendly alien power. She rewards this by discovering an older copy of their main religious text which justifies her desires...
And her fierce space-kitties may be telepathic.
