On the one hand, I hate it when I can see what's coming a long ways before the protagonist does. And on the other hand, I hate it if the author hasn't given enough clues that the plot makes sense.

On the gripping hand, it's really good when I can see what's coming just before the protag does, and then it does, and then there's another twist I didn't expect.

So good on you, Mr. Crais.

Still unresolved: how long people can survive on a diet of two-hour naps, cigarettes, gin and Tagamet, with the occasional antacid and spray of Binaca. Perhaps Brust could give Crais some pointers...
