and now I'm going to reveal the connection: these are all fairly successful modern serials, in which an actual story continues across months and years of updates. The whole backstory is available (and in two cases is complete) online. Pretty much every update furthers the story; although some feature interludes or occasional one-day gags, that's not the point of any of these.
