Books Read
May. 10th, 2019 07:52 pm68 Hot Box, by Matt Lee and Ted Lee
69 Philosophy, Pussycats and Porn, by Stoya
70 Can't Help Myself, Meredith Goldstein
It's the nonfiction section of my year, apparently.
Hot Box is about the catering business, mostly in NYC. Really, it's about the high-end catering business, plus a smattering of history of catering-as-a-phenomenon.
Stoya is an adult film performer, and this book appears to be mostly outtakes from her blog. She seems widely read, fond of cats, and generally happy with her profession. Many of the entries approach some kind of point and then avoid making it, which I find odd.
Meredith Goldstein is the agony aunt for the Boston Globe. Each chapter of mostly autobiographical material ends with a related letter and a few responses. I get the feeling she's better at advising other people than herself, which I suppose is the point of the title.
