Second in the Children series -- perhaps Children of Earth is a good name? and possibly the final volume. It's a space opera; it's full of interesting ideas; it has an interesting plot... and it has basically no characters. As in the previous book, many characters have the same name to indicate that they are filling the same place in the story but in a different era. It's a book about translation and truly non-human ways of thinking; it owes a little to Blood Music and to The Thing. Overall, a very Peter Watts kind of book but with a longer timeline and a more optimistic ending.
