107. This is How You Lose The Time War, Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone.

Either a time-travel story tells you the rules, in which case something clever can be done, or it doesn't tell you the rules, in which case nothing clever can be fair.

This book doesn't try to be fair, it tries to be art. It mostly succeeds.

...but I was waiting for an explanation of the rules in order for a clever thing to happen, so I was watching the right clues and was completely unsurprised by the clever thing that did indeed happen exactly the way that the clues suggested it would.

I predict there will be lauded as the best book ever by people who really like literary style over everything else.
