Finished: _Spiderman and The Human Torch: I'm With Stupid_ written by Dan Slott.
I want to make a clear distinction here between the comics that I generally read and this. After several false starts, I've decided that the word for that distinction is Quality. This volume doesn't have it. Whatever it is that _Sandman_ and _Watchmen_ and _Invincible_ and _Mage_ and _The Authority_ and _Planetary_ and _Tom Strong_ all have in common, this isn't it.
Not worth the time I spend reading it.

It is why I personally no longer buy individual issues. If it's not worth grouping into a graphic novel, it's 90% likely to be not worth my time...I don't need my daily comic book fix any longer.
Wow! I guess you're also driving a Porsche and f*cking a supermodel...
Date: 2006-02-21 02:16 am (UTC)Sandman, Watchmen, the first year of Invincible, the first run of Mage, The Authority, Planetary, and the first handful of Tom Strongs are some of the best comics of the past 25 years. Trying to hold something light, fluffy, and fun like Spider-Man/Human Torch up to those standards is bizarre.
It would be like listening to Elvis, the Beatles, the Doors, the Rolling Stones, classic U2 and then putting on something fun like Bare Naked Ladies. Guess what? It's not going to measure up.
But "not worth the time you spent reading it?" What the hell? Spider-Man/Human Torch was some of the best Spider-Man stories in over a decade. Better than anything Mackie did. Better than the current JMS run. Better than any Spider-Man mini that's come out in ages. Yes, it d*mn well is worth the time to read it. And at under eight bucks it's also one of the best values out there.
Maybe you should read it again? And next time, try reading it after a handful of any of Marvel or DC's so-called "top ten" titles.
