Where art thou, SNMP?

My office has a new toaster oven. Toasting requires:

- push a button to change from MODE EXECUTE READY (STANDBY) to ON.
- push the TOAST button
- select the darkness with up/down controls and an LCD display
- push START

It comes with a DVD to teach you how to use it.

Inexplicably, it does not have a serial port, an ethernet port, WiFi, nor does it speak SNMP or even Toaster Control Protocol. I guess you have to pay more for a remotely managed toaster.

I flatter myself that I know how to use a toaster oven, having owned one for the past . . . 25 years or so.

I do admit, however, that if I came up to one that said MODE EXECUTE READY (STANDBY), I would have to pause and figure that out.

I would hope that I wouldn't have to watch a DVD to learn how to use it, though.
