To a certain cohort of nerds, this book is irresistible crack.

If you're not in or interested in that cohort, you won't care much.

Most of my friends are in that cohort, as am I.

It starts off slowly and drearily. Actually, it starts off as though it were going to be a YA dystopia. Then you get sucked into it, and the writing gets a lot better.
