_Spider Star_, Mike Brotherton
( Tau Zero + Mote in God's Eye ) = Spider Star
Actually, there are a lot of similarities there to be exploited. Some other Anderson and N&P collabs seem apropos as well. Let's put it this way: this is the modern equivalent of those early 70s 'hard-SF' novels. The feel is more Anderson, the plot is N&P in the middle.
All of this can be regarded as Good. Not great, but solidly good.
I note the presence of two alpha-male viewpoints, who do not engage in a fistfight or a political war. Both are competently heroic. Women seem to be relegated to advisory and inspirational roles by accident, rather than design.
This may not be very coherent because I am running a fever. It took me several hours to read some few pages, and that is not the author's fault.
