_Deep Sky_, Patrick Lee
Lee finishes his trilogy in the same style that he began it: with believable characters doing reasonable things in an unreasonable universe, much like a perfect SF/action movie of the kind that Hollywood would never get right. He also manages one of my favorite SF methods ever: the slow setup where capabilities are introduced, demonstrated, and then used unexpectedly but completely consistently to induce a proper sense of wonder. All of this wraps up to an ending that clearly demonstrates that Lee knew where this was going from the beginning and is now done with it. I'm looking forward to whatever he does next.
