One of my (now former) coworkers used a 42" 4K TV as a monitor at the office. He has some trouble with some Linux video drivers (waves hands vaguely; I don't recall the details now), but once he got past that he loved it. If I could see well enough to make use of that real-estate I'd do it too. (I have to sit too close for that to work. I tried using his monitor to test it, and I had to move my chair, not just my head, to direct attention to different parts of it, alas.)
