When I read, I try to believe it. My disbelief is suspended at quite a high level -- it takes a huge whopper to kick me out. Afterwards I will think about it and start to criticize.
When I watch or listen, I can't believe any of it unless I've already thought it through. My inner cynic is turned up to 11.
Now that I think about it, this has been true for me since elementary school.

Date: 2008-09-04 09:56 am (UTC)I tend to be swept away when listening to someone give a big speech, and come out of the fog when it's done and try to read the text, and find it was nothing like I remember. I first noticed this with a speech of Regan's, and promised myself not to watch speeches without reading them later.
