The accumulated stress of the last n weeks (summary: moved company HQ, while fighting against a large number of obstacles not of my devising or control) has beaten my immune system. I have a fever, green stuff in my lungs and sinuses, and the usual detritus around that.
Also, my circadian is completely hosed.

Date: 2008-09-18 02:06 pm (UTC)The basic problem is that conscientious workers internalize their jobs too much and end up overworked and stressed. Employers depend upon this and keep piling responsibilities on the most capable.
What one needs to do is develop a sense of balance - it's only a job. What skilled workers don't tend to realize is that the company needs them and will yield when the workers rebel against exploitation. In your case it is a lack of adequate staff.
I don't care how difficult it was to find skilled workers, you obviously still don't have enough. You need to demand some more help. If you do, you will find that they will accede to the demand.
No job is worth compromising your health, or living in a state of perpetual stress and fatigue. While you are resting formulate a memo explaining what sort of additional help you need, and why. If you take a few extra days off you will find the firm more receptive to your demands since they have just experienced the alternative.
