Wagamama: meh.

We went to Wagamama's Faneuil Hall location before going to the Aquarium last night. It was... meh.

Service was slow, and it was difficult to get their attention. We had chicken gyoza, veggie gyoza, chicken chili men and ginger chicken soba. We buy better gyoza frozen at CostCo. We make better gyoza than CostCo ourselves. And the_nita makes the best gyoza.

The chicken chili men was a spicy chicken cacciatore. No, really. With a little yellow squash. A little too much chili for Elizabear.

The ginger chicken soba had great noodles, but an extremely salty taste that I really couldn't cope with.

Not their fault, but bathrooms were a 100 yard hike away. Yes, srsly.

Weird. Our experiences at the Pru location have been quite different. It is spicier than you might expect, and the duck gyoza was quite nice.

Your charming review was the reason we chose Wagamama. (No, we don't think it reflects badly on you.)

I liked the spice level in the dish with chili in its name; I thought the gyoza were uncrispy and had a loose, gooey, bland filling. The veggie were better than the chicken. I avoided the duck gyoza on the theory that it was the only mention of duck on the menu.

OK - to be fair, the (chicken) gyoza was better on Friday (before they officially opened), but somewhat disappointing on Monday night. I was happy with the yaki udon, and Kathleen had some kind of soup (I wasn't paying attention to hers). Also the saké was too expensive for the amount served. So my second visit was more of a mixed experience than the first. Best two out of three?

The one in Harvard is a food engine; they seat you, they get your order almost before you are done sitting down, and stuff food on you in an attempt to get you out fast. We went there at a coworker's request and I was unimpressed with ambiance or food quality.

I do covet the furniture, though -- extremely solid benches and tables, of the sort two dsrtaos could engage in armored combat on.
