How'd you meet [SO] scratch that, can't use my usual question; I know that story.

Where do you see yourself in eight years?

Two kids, one aged 10ish and one aged 8ish. One wife, who may be working on a novel or a non-fiction book by then. This house. I'll be working as some combination of Lord High Sysadmin, IT Director, and/or CTO... possibly even still at the same place where I am now. The house will be more in order. Perhaps life will be less stressful.

Eh, what I do now, with room for variation. Reading, Lego, singing again, learning calligraphy, hacking complex systems, having long and strange conversations with friends, learning something new, teaching something else...

Once upon a time, Metahacker and dsrtao went to college together. They roomed together for a year and a half or so, occasionally experiencing telepathic episodes. MH went off to attend grad school in Boston, and a year or so later, dsrtao decided he needed a new job and interviewed at many companies, including BBN in Cambridge. He took the job and found an apartment a couple of miles from MH.

MH was active in the SCA and sung in the Quire. One day he heard the director talking about her new job at BBN. "Oh, you should meet dsrtao, he works there too... and he's a bass."

So dsrtao and elizabear played phone tag for a month or more. She was unhappy that he worked in the sales group, but then she saw his cubicle was decorated with shinai and blow-up palm trees and Slinkies and a little green Intel guy in a bunny suit waving a flag that said 0xF00F, which was a command which would crash certain Pentium chips. So she was slightly relieved.

One day dsrtao tracked elizabear down in the NOC and they spent fifteen or twenty minutes chatting. Except that, by the wall clock, it was well over an hour. Over the course of the next month, they ate lunch together almost every day. dsrtao joined the Quire as a bass. Elizabear often gave dsrtao a ride home afterwards. One night she asked if dsrtao would be interested in going to a Red Sox game with her. He said that he was not very interested in going to a Red Sox game, but he was very interested in going to a Red Sox game with her. They did. They went to some parties and ignored other people. A good time was had by all.

We only played phone/email tag for a week, hon. And then there was May Day, where I fed you and introduced you to my friends, and then came the month of getting to know you (and breaking things off with my boyfriend who was leaving the country in 3 months with his other girlfriend anyway), and then came the Red Sox game.

And dsrtao then mentioned he'd noticed me six months earlier at an SCA event ...

And then metahacker got to be the best man at the wedding! :)
