Hey, that means feorag's mother is unquestionably Canadian. (Her mother was a war bride; she was born over there in, IIRC, 1946: father died shortly thereafter and widow plus daughter returned to the UK.) I wonder if that means that F could get a Canadian passport?

Nope. The new law denies citizenship to:

were born outside Canada to a Canadian parent, who are not already citizens or who lost their citizenship in the past, and who were born in the second or next generation abroad (this includes people who failed to retain citizenship)

Unless F's mother's citizenship was previously claimed.

Yes, but F was the first generation born abroad. Hmm. I'd have to ask her mother if I could look at her birth certificate.

hmmm...first DNA (i.e. Nicholas Bonhomme II) sailed to Quebec (Was it New France back then) and his son Nicholas Bonhomme III and the rest of the family were subsequently listed as "dit Baeupre' " and there is a theory that they helped build Beaupre' Cathedrale in Montreal, but that was all back in the 1600's, on the other hand, my grandmother might actually qualify, will ask my mother..."Nanny" spoke no English until entering the school system in Malone NY.

Wonder if Nanny could get citizenship, maybe I could get dual through her?

My mother is getting dual citizenship with Ireland, as she can prove grandparents born in County Cork, although they emigrated and met in Syracuse, of all places!
