Cold-brew coffee
Apr. 18th, 2009 07:09 amI had forgotten how good this method tastes.
Find a large glass jar. Put in about five times as much water as coarsely ground coffee. Put the lid on and leave in the refrigerator for 24-96 hours. Filter out the grounds -- I use a wire colander.
The result is a huge extraction of coffee flavor, but with almost no acid, and with all of the caffeine that was present. Perfect cold coffee. Keep it sealed and cold, because warmth releases the aromatic oils...

Ice Tea
Date: 2009-04-18 01:53 pm (UTC)Usually the next day I take out the bags since they just get in the way at that point. I found a nice glass jug with a top that seals with an O-ring that gets tightened as you twist the top for the purpose.
You might make life a bit easier for yourself if you put the coffee grounds in a tea ball (the kind with a chain) and dropped that in. Then you wouldn't have to strain the drink afterwards.
