_Declare_, Tim Powers

People who will like this book will probably also have interests in: WWII and Cold War espionage; secret histories; conspiracy theories; Arab culture circa 1850-1950; Lovecraftian and occult horror. If you hate all of those, don't bother with _Declare_. I can see now why Charlie Stross said that he put off reading it until after he finished _The Atrocity Archives_ (highly recommended, by the way): there's a number of similarities which are essentially unavoidable when you decide to write about the intersection of modern espionage and Things Man Was Not Meant To Know. The combination is like chocolate and peanut butter: highly addicting for those who like it; doomed to failure for those with peanut-allergies or those poor unfortunates who hate chocolate.

One more note: this isn't as rereadable as the aforementioned Stross. There isn't a sympathetic character in the whole book, really. Buy the Stross, get the Powers at the library.
