dsrtao: dsr as a LEGO minifig (Default)
Another of my infrequent software recommendations. Desktop environment: XFCE (now in version 4+). I have used an odd, semi-supported configuration of GNOME and Sawfish for about three years now, because I have some odd requirements:

  • focus-follows-mouse
  • multiple workspaces with available switching by mousewheel-on-desktop
  • minimalist window decorations: tab-style title bar, tiny-but-present window frames
  • minimal intrusion on desktop space
  • fast launchers for several particular apps (mostly customized terminals)
  • clarity and simplicity, plus power on demand
  • and if it's not too much to ask, I shouldn't have to program my window manager's configuration, and it should not use much CPU or RAM

XFCE satisfies all of those, and has support for most GNOME things anyway.
