_Thirteen_, Richard K. Morgan

(aka _Black Man_ in the UK edition)

A genetically modified cannibal super-soldier from Mars crash-lands off the coast of California and begins killing random people across Jesusland. Another super-soldier teams up with an ex-NYC cop to hunt the first one down.

Will you unfriend me if I say that this is a remarkably plausible future world?

The Mars terraforming went too quickly and easily for my suspension of belief, but the political and technical situations on Earth all seem reasonable to me. There's an unsatisfying mystery in here, too -- unsatisfying because, while all the clues are given, they are insufficient for anyone other than Sherlock Holmes to put them together properly.

Contains graphic and often gratuitous violence -- well, it's by Morgan, what did you expect?
