Razzlfratzing headline word choice

"Baz, the product formerly known as Foobar" means that Foobar has changed its name to Baz.

"Baz, the product formally known as Foobar" means that Baz is a nickname for Foobar, and you should call it Foobar in academic writing or on first mention in an article.

Both of these, however, are wrong when what you mean to say is "Kinect, the product which was widely known by the codename Project Natal". See http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/06/14/kinect-product-formally-known-project-natal-unveiled

Back when I thought ShadowRun-style "hack into the system to edit anyone's web pages" internet would win, I looked forward to editing grammar errors on other people's sites.

Nowadays we have wikis--but not nearly enough of them. :P
