Finished: _Rebel Ice_, S.L. Viehl. Book six or so in the continuing story of Cherijo, space-surgeon extraordinary and possibly immortal genetic experiment. Unusually, this book does not closely follow Cherijo's viewpoint: sometime in the first few pages, she suffers a major amnesiac trauma. Routinely competent storytelling, as per usual. Worth it if you read _Star Doc_ and liked it and successors.

Fun with the big booms: http://www.cdi.org/Issues/NukeAccidents/accidents.htm is, as you may guess, a list of major accidents involving nukes in the hands of the US military. Given that they seem to mishandle something badly once every three years or so, it's pertinent to point out that they haven't declassified any incidents since 1984... but they've probably happened.

Also fascinating: the report you link to corroborates with the stories my old physics teacher used to tell. Evidently it was his job to assess the weapon after "incident"....I'd therefore heard about the Spain one, the missile lost in Georgia, and the one in NC where "five of six safety mechanisms had failed". 8-|
