Bedtime stories

dsrtaoThe kids' last four selections for bedtime stories have been the Harry Potter series. As we come close to the end of each book, we've watched the relevant movie together.
I finished reading book four and Eliz had had enough for a while. She requested that I pick something else. After a bit, I decided on Heinlein. _Have Spacesuit, Will Travel_.
I wasn't sure what kind of reaction I was getting as I was reading the first chapter, as both boys were quiet. When I finished, E told me that it was boring, and we should go back to Rowling.
Z immediately objected. "That was awesome!" he declared. Then he pestered for a second chapter.
Tonight we finished chapter four. Heinlein does decent mini-climaxes or cliffhangers at the end of each chapter, which I think is a prime characteristic of a good bedtime story. E has warmed up to a bit more.
