The problem: we all want french toast.
The complicating factor: I don't want to stand over the stove for an hour making it.
The solution: french toast casserole, which is almost bread pudding.

Date: 2011-07-03 03:46 am (UTC)French toast is even more work than pancakes, because presoaking the bread would cause it to fall apart.
This worked very well.
1 loaf of challah
butter
milk
eggs
sugar
vanilla
cinnamon
Heavily butter a glass 9x13 baking dish. Cube the challah. Mix milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla and some cinnamon, then pour over the bread in the dish. Let sit 15-20 minutes while the oven heats to 400F. Sprinkle more cinnamon, bake for about 25 minutes.

Date: 2011-07-03 10:19 pm (UTC)Yeah, you couldn't let the bread soak; you would have to set it up with the four pans being offset from each other time-wise, so for each pan you could dip and load. I've only done two skillets at a time (that's how many dairy skillets of suitable size/shape I have) and I had time to twiddle my thumbs, but maybe not enough time to actually add capacity. :-)
