dsrtaoFinished: _Dragon and Slave_, Timothy Zahn. Book three in an open-ended series about a boy and his magic dragon tattoo. Still reasonably good, as Zahn is telling a complete story in each volume, while leaving a cookie-crumb-trail that will presumably pay off in the last volume.
One of the Big Questions at Boskone was "what books are good for introducing people to SF?" The YA market is full of decent answers to this question, although it does tend to turn off some adults. (Still, my sister-in-law went smoothly from mainstream to _Cryptonomicon_ to _Snow Crash_, so there's hope for everyone.)
