_American Shaolin_, Matthew Polley
_Dead Girls' Dance_, Rachel Caine

Matthew Polley tells an autobiographical tale of his kungfu training at the monastery in Shaolin. It's not very much about kungfu (although it has some good stories and some vital advice for those contemplating the same journey) but contains many fascinating anecdotes about the daily life of a big conspicuous foreigner in China, and the cultural changes of the last fifteen years.

_Dead Girls' Dance_ is the first sequel to _Glass Houses_, and there are at least two more to follow. The vampires are scary and unabashedly evil. The cast is small and teenaged. I suppose it's something like _My So-Called Life_ with vampires. It's the sort of situation that screams out for Jack Crow and the official Vatican Vampire-Killing Squad, right down to the small-Texas-town setting. Pity that won't be happening...
