Powerlessness

dsrtaoSeveral buildings in Cambridge lost power this afternoon about 1:30 PM; one of them is the one in which I work.
Did my UPS cut in seamlessly? Yes.
Are they scaled for multi-hour outages? You jest.
Even if the outage is not fixed by tomorrow morning, I can still do most of my work: all the production servers are out at a colo site with big batteries and bigger generators. Also some useful communications bits: our main mail server and the Jabber server. So, work can go on.
