_Heat Stroke_ and _Chill Factor_, Rachel Caine
_Danse Macabre_, Laurell Hamilton (incomplete)

Ms. Caine does a tightly-plotted, well-characterized set of novels. They may be moderately accessible without the first book, but definitely not as much fun. Read in publication order. The titles are weather-related, but not indicative of the contents.

I have not yet finished the new Hamilton. I may not. I am now 144 pages into a 480 page novel, and the total timespan covered has been less than one evening... during which about five, maybe fifteen pages of plot in any other novel has elapsed. I shall henceforth place The Shark Jumping Incident after _Obsidian Butterfly_, in which sex started moving from a plot element to an obsession.

I think I have mentioned this online before but I did read a mystery with an A plot and an obvious red herring B plot in which the author got confused and had the detective solve the wrong crime. Luckily, for no obvious reason, the bad guy in the B plot blurts out a spontaneous confession to the crime the detective was supposed to solve so it all worked out ok.
