List 5 things that are going right in your life. Anything works - it doesn't need to be major or life-altering.
1. Family. The kids may be sick right now, but they're getting better. The boys are smart, cute, and occasionally charming. They're working on politeness and empathy -- not things that come easily that young. Elizabear is Just Plain Wonderful.
2. Work. Everything is going well. There will be a new VP of engineering for me to report to in a week or two -- that should relieve the stress on Robert, who has been getting frazzled trying to do his own job and manage everyone else in tech. I feel like a valued member of the team.
3. House. The roofers came yesterday and seem to have done everything except the flashing around the chimney. We have sufficient air conditioning to handle the whole house in 95+ weather, or we can just airco the bedroom for those really humid nights. We seem to have acquired a black raspberry plant hidden among other bushes.
4. Friends. Need I say more?
5. I like toast.

Re: pickles
Date: 2006-07-21 06:04 pm (UTC)I ran three giant English cukes from CostCo through the cuisinart to get nice thin slices. Bring equal parts vinegar and sugar to a simmer, add spices (I used garlic, dill, a little tumeric, cumin, and a handful of salt), and pour over the cucumber slices in a nonreactive sealable container. Refrigerate at least two days before serving.
Any vinegar will do -- I used mostly white, with a little cider and some balsamic. Salt levels can be adjusted as desired -- it needs a little, but you don't need to go overboard.
