Yeah, yeah, Linux machines stay up forever. So do processes running on them. My mail program, for instance, has been up for several months now.

Turns out that it doesn't reread config information until either you tell it to do so or it restarts.

One bit of config information is whether to check any given mailfolder to see if it has new mail, or just display it when found.

I've subscribed to a couple of mailing lists in the last four months, but ignored them because they never had new mail flags. Today I told the mail program to reread config, and sure enough... mail.

If you got along without those extra streams of input for four months, do you really need to be subscribed?

Or maybe you're not suffering from information overload yet.
