I was just going through our junk-spam filter at work, looking for false positives.

Sure enough, a resume from November of last year, from a Yahoo Mail address. Yahoo had helpfully added an advertisement at the bottom which made it indistinguishable from mortgage spam.

So that's where it sat.

I just did a random test using Thunderbird as my mail client and the SMTP outgoing server set to gmail. This combo didn't add any extra stuff to the message.

I didn't try yahoo mail, but I wonder if one can avoid the ads the same way.

Reading the mail via Thunderbird instead of the web interfaces certainly makes for less clutter. Of course this implies a certain amount of knowhow, but isn't that what's wanted for tech jobs?
