I hate telcos.

Well known law of system administration: all software sucks. Well known extension: all hardware sucks.

New extension: all telcos suck.

We've had IDT residential unlimited local and long distance phone service for about 4 years now, paying just under $60/month. They've screwed up twice, and this time they disconnected our phone even though they had their money in hand, then they charged a $30 reconnection fee. They say they will reimburse it, but won't do so until their system automatically imposes the charge -- then they'll do it manually, if we ask. Nicely.

Time for a new telco.

Anyone like their phone service? I'm looking at Trinsic (http://www.trinsic.com/teloa/getTN.do) and... nothing. Anyone?

Honestly I just use Verizon and they've been fine, no mistakes for many years.

Do you want to stick with POTS, or is VOIP an option?

POTS. (Well, if ISDN were actually available at the same prices, I would be happy to use that.) VOIP is great if you can do what I do at work: have a reliable backup Net connection. It's not cost effective if your backup connection has to be entirely attributed to the phone service.

I'm paying $55/mo to Verizon for land line service and what sounds like a comparable package.
