We've had a few Sungold cherry tomatoes in the past two weeks; today we got the first SuperSweet 100, and we did a comparison taste.

They both have superb textures, with an appealing balance of juiciness and firm flesh. The SuperSweet 100 is dominated by sweetness -- basically, it's a tomato with the sweetness of a ripe grape. The Sungold wins, however, with a more complex flavor including more acidity to balance the sweetness, and a lush aftertaste that lingers for a while all across the front of the mouth.

We have some Green Zebra and Mister Stripies developing nicely -- those are full-sized varieties, both multicolors but basically ripe while still green. The Rainbows haven't started showing fruit yet, nor the Aussies.

If you live anywhere near Boston, I strongly recommend a half-day spent at the Tomato and Corn festival in Concord.

My tomatoes are in the worst shape I've ever seen them. Tiny little things with nothing going for them. 22 nothings to be precise.
