_Eternal Blue_, Wen Spencer
Another standalone! I am so pleased that the single-volume novel is not dead that I am almost willing to overlook the ninja catgirl fetish (OK, catboy) that runs through this book. Reminiscent of Tobias Buckell's Carribbean Space Opera, although that might simply be the time spent on ocean-going boats next to hulking disabled spacecraft and extremely alien aliens. Good storytelling after a rocky start involving space royalty and the war between humans and inexplicably uncommunicative nasties.
