_Positive Discipline for Preschoolers_
_One Day On Mars_, Travis Taylor

Taylor has been writing slam-bang hyperphysics action-adventure SF, the sort where an almost-lone scientist invents a machine for snarfing cosmic energy in the first chapter, which lets him build the warp drive in the second chapter, the third chapter is concerned with building a spaceship, in the fourth he and a gorgeous female companion go off into space, in the fifth they meet aliens, and by the end of the book they are benevolent dictators of the galaxy.

This is not that.

No, this is Clancy-style A-plot, B-plot, C-plot. A is Die Hard on Mars. B is Veritech TransformerTransfigurable Fighter Mecha Pilots - on Mars. And the C plot is the extremely short tale of an undercover spy.

Not well-written. Taylor can (and has) done better.

_Positive Discipline for Preschoolers_: treat them like humans. Ignorant but well-meaning humans.

The positive discipline theory works for high school, too.

I find myself wondering if it would work on ignorant but well-meaning adult humans.

I fear not. Perhaps for 90% of the population, but there is some percent out there that really *is* out to get you.

Probably works for most segments of the population, too.

Small entertainment...LB's taken to using "I want some caring" as his default response to "please try to do this thing we both know you can do yourself" instead of trying to do it.

Well, at least he's communicating! Now maybe he can find the middle ground ...
