The Merry Gentry series (tales of an Elvish-American princess) is now in volume 6. See above. If one were to take out all the sex scenes in the six volumes and replace them with "And then we did it. It was good|great|amazing|magical|painful", it would make a nice one-volume book, not too thick. We would just be getting to the point where it might be good to have a plot climax, pun intended.
I've been about 1/3 of the way through the first Merry Gentry book for a while now as I keep getting bored and putting it down so I can read something more interesting instead. I'm starting to question whether it's worth my time to bother trying to finish it.
Hmmm... your the second person in 36 hours to mention the Dresden files books to me. You'd recommend them then? I picked up Merry Gentry because I was looking for a fun read about magical creatures trying to survive in the modern world (and I'm sick of vampires so went for Gentry over Anita Blake)
Jim Butcher is doing very well with Harry Dresden -- who is, if you haven't looked at a back cover, "Chicago's only wizard in the Yellow Pages". He's never going to be Special Snowflake, and gets kicked around a little more than he does any kicking.
It's not 'about' magical creatures trying to survive in the modern world, but it certainly has that as a major background element. Some bridges have trolls, some gangs really are werewolves, and even the Summer Court of the Faerie are not very nice people. Recommended.

There are some vampires.
