This storm was two snowblower sessions long. Last night I cleared the extra-long driveway in about an hour; this afternoon I did it in about 45 minutes. It's still snowing.

The plow pack at the roadside seems unusually light this storm. Has Waltham changed the plows? I don't think so.

I should remember to take some ibuprofen before I go out. It's not pushing the snowblower about that I mind, it's the fact that I have to bend over to do it. I can't fit a six-inch extension on the handles, either, as the control system is a set of squeeze bars top and bottom. Let go, and the relevant function stops.

City of Melrose suggests shoveling out a bit of road before your driveway so when the plow comes by, a lot of the snow falls into the sudden empty spot instead of blocking up the driveway. They put a color diagram on page 8 of http://www.cityofmelrose.org/departments/DPW/Microsoft%20Word%20-%2012-18-08%20Snow%20Manual.pdf

Mind you, I have not seen a blurb about this online document in either local newspaper yet, so I don't know how many people will try this. [livejournal.com profile] chiefoperator came up with something like this independently and says it works.
