_Mob Rules_, Cameron Haley (Greg Benage)

I'm guessing that urban fantasy author names need to be female or mistakable for such (M.L.N. Hanover comes to mind, too, being Daniel Abraham.)

The writing is fine. The storytelling is acceptable. I think the protagonist suffers from a case of idiocy, on occasion, although it is carefully lampshaded in the text. The real problem I have is that, no two ways about it, this is a bad person. She worked her way up in a magical LA mafia, she kills people, she destroys property carelessly, she has no sense of ethics or consideration for others... and she is not witty or stylish about it. She's a thug.

I think the author agreed with me, though, and took steps, starting about 3/4 of the way through, to change some of these things. Unfortunately, the idiot light was replaced by a cartoon genius bulb, and I didn't buy that behavior.
