121. Sideswiped

122.  The Drafter

both by Kim Harrison

Ambitious. Possibly over-ambitious. The universe features:
  • drafting: the psychic power to revert the universe for some period of time (10 seconds to a few minutes) and, oddly, for some distance (hundreds of feet to a mile or three)
  • said power causes amnesia to the drafter
  • anchoring: a telepathy-like power that allows people to remember both timelines and, oddly, to give back the memory of one timeline to a drafter
Every single character we meet is an X-tuple agent. The protagonist, Peri, suffers multiple amnesia events during the course of the book and has clearly suffered many more prior to the book. People die and get resurrected by drafting events.

Did I mention that Peri works for a secret agency that has at least three agendas?

Did I mention that there are at least two technologies which are Significantly Mentioned ("glass tech" and "wave tech") but play no actual role in the plot?

Sideswiped is an introductory novella with a much more straightforward plot line.

There is another book and another novella in the series. For some reason I think I will attempt to read them.
