Magnetic knife holders?

Anyone have opinions about magnetic knife holders? We have substantially exceeded the capacity of our block...

Anyone need a few free cheap knives? We have no use at all for some stamped blades...

We have four knife blocks, and have sometimes entertained the thought of a magnetic knife holder. Let me know if you find something with *huge ass* capacity? We don't have pareve knives, but we do still have two sets to contend with. (And we can't use stamped blades, either, since my MIL spoiled us with a Henkel's set and a Calphalon set.)

I was thinking of making one from some neodymium magnets. Basically, if I get some mild steel U-channel, I can do this:

That's about $1.40 of magnets, $4 or less of steel, and probably $1 in padded tape on the front to prevent clanging and scratching. 8 N40 quarter-inch cube magnets will hold 48 pounds of knives, so it may be a little overkill there... but at 6 lbs of force to pull off a blade, Z won't be standing on a ladder and pulling them down any time soon.

On the other hand, he does use a ladder on occasion, and the sharp blades would be exposed. Maybe I should just buy another block.

Some friends of mine love a drawer block they own -- but I never have enough drawer space to put any else in. I'd go for another block -- but the kind that the knives slide in sideways rather than blade down. This keeps the block from wearing down the hone on the knife.
