Magnetic knife holders?
Aug. 11th, 2006 02:55 pmAnyone have opinions about magnetic knife holders? We have substantially exceeded the capacity of our block...
Anyone need a few free cheap knives? We have no use at all for some stamped blades...

This seems limiting to me. Plus, it is my impression (not verified) that ones with footings are less effective magnets than the plain bar types.

That's about $1.40 of magnets, $4 or less of steel, and probably $1 in padded tape on the front to prevent clanging and scratching. 8 N40 quarter-inch cube magnets will hold 48 pounds of knives, so it may be a little overkill there... but at 6 lbs of force to pull off a blade, Z won't be standing on a ladder and pulling them down any time soon.
On the other hand, he does use a ladder on occasion, and the sharp blades would be exposed. Maybe I should just buy another block.
