Make ganache. Temper some into 3 egg yolks previously beaten with sugar. Heat appropriately. Stir in half and half, cocoa, more sugar, a small amount of strong coffee. Cook until no raw cocoa taste is present. Cool. Refrigerate overnight. Put through ice cream machine; decant immediately and freeze in airtight container.

"Scrumptious" says Z. And everyone else.

This recipe reminds me of the time my dad bought an ice cream maker and used a similar mix. It came out very tasty, but he said that home made cost about twice as much as from the store. I think that mostly put an end to his ice cream making...

Yep, must compare apples to apples with the ice cream. Of course it's more pricey than Hood "chocolate" ice cream. Good for you.

I'll ask [livejournal.com profile] metageek to try that method next time he makes chocolate ice cream.

OMG! That reminds me of the ganache ice cream from Max's in RI. The stuff wouldn't melt it was so rich.
